Betsy, Tacy and Tib go to school

Here’s another set of custom Betsy, Tacy and Tib dolls I made for someone. This time dressed in everyday school outfits.

I did a little research on what a kid might have worn to school at the turn of the 20th century. Bows!

Drop waists and giant collars.

Here is what I came up with, a sailor collar, big sleeve ruffles, some lace trim, all with drop waists and Tacy and Tib in bows and Betsy in braids.

For Tacy, who is from a large Irish family is likely wearing a hand-me-down I picked a homespun flannel and aged lace to make it look a little worn.

Tib is the most well off and I remember the illustrations of her fancy dresses so I put her in crisp white ruffles with a pretty sage green print and of course a shiny satin bow.

The gal I made the dolls for said she thought of Betsy in a sailor dress and I agree it’s a perfect match. I had so much fun making these sweet girls.

  1. Ahhh I love these and wish I had some of my own!!! Those were my favorite books and you’ve captured the characters perfectly!

  2. My girls and I absolutely love the Betsy-Tacy dolls. I’m curious if you sell them? Or if you sell the pattern to make them? I would love to gift them to my daughters.
