crocheted hexagons

I have started another over ambitious project in a medium I know nothing about, crochet. After weeks of futsing with it here and there I think I figured out how to crochet a hexagon. Sometimes they turn out right and other times, doing the exact same thing, I get slightly different results. That happens when I crochet. So I barely know how to do this but I think I want to make an afghan of hexagons. I should totally go for it right? Who cares that I can barely join them, think I may be using the wrong kind of yarn, that I don’t know how to finish the edges and have ZERO idea what to do with the back.

I’m guessing I just put these on a tapestry needle and weave them in. The instructions I’m following say an option is to crochet ends in as I go. I don’t know how that works. I need to do some research before I continue but I probably won’t. Knitting, crochet, quilting… they are all so overwhelming when you try to learn them. I just muddle my way through. I just need an actual person to come over & show me what I need to know. A crochet fairy.

apple picking

I’m all proud of myself because we went and picked the apples before it was too late. I always miss it. Pickings were slim. And I may be imagining it, because I know it was a hard Winter for apples, but they don’t seem to taste as awesome as they normally do.

cider doughnuts are obviously harsh Winter resistant.

back to school is stressful so I knit a scarf

I love a good bulky yarn. This one is Red Heart Grande yarn from Joanns. I think I've knit 10 scarves like this one. Oh well, what's one more. This one got me through the first week of school. Now I need more yarn. Back to school is tough this year. I wasn't ready. I keep feeling like this is some sort of test run and they'll be back home and I won't have to worry about, well, I don't even know. Whatever it is that has my chest all tight. I wish so badly that they went back after Labor Day like we did in the olden days. Seems less abrupt.

I just noticed, even tiny knit bear got a chunky blue scarf at some point

Info on the stitch I used from The Complete Guide to Needlework

Trinity stitch: A smaller, less complicated knot than either a popcorn or bobble. It is formed by making a double increase in one stitch followed by a double decrease in the next. Trinity (also called blackberry) is a popular choice for one panel in an Aran motif. Note that at the end of Row 2 there are 2 stitches fewer than you started with. At the end of Row 4, the pattern normalizes to the starting number.

Multiple of 4 sts plus 3

Rows 1 and 3: purl

Row 2: *P3tog, KPK into next st*, P3tog

Row 4: *KPK into first st, P3tog*, KPK into last st

new outfit for Zoe

Today Phoebe made some new green shoes, floral skirt and ballerina headband for her doll. She cut out the felt shoes and hand sewed them together. She pushed the gas on the sewing machine while we sewed the skirt and threaded the elastic through the waistband with a safety pin. And she measured out the ribbon for the headband. She’s working on a drawing for a friend for Zoe now. I’ve fallen so out of habit with crafting with the kids. Oscar never makes anything anymore. And although Phoebe is always drawing and coloring she doesn’t stick with other crafty endeavors for long. I need to make this a priority! I need to make a maker.

berries

Summer is going too fast this year. Just typing that makes me panic. I don’t want to think about it. Here’s a lovely day we had last week. We spent a week in Michigan and had such a great time, mostly on the beach but on one of the cooler days we went blueberry picking. It was awesome. So calm and easy. No bouncy house or petting zoo or carnival rides, just us and 4 buckets.
