khaki scout uniform

Have you seen Moonrise Kingdom yet? Not my favorite Wes Anderson movie but amazingly gorgeous and perfect nonetheless. And one of my favorite themes, camping/scouting. And did you know that Kit, Chloe and Louise‘s free pajama pattern can be easily made into a khaki scout uniform? I was pretty excited when that dawned on me. All I had to do to modify was make some shirt pockets, fold up cuffs and tie a kerchief around her neck. I was going to sew up a bunch of tiny badges and then realized I had enough oddball buttons to do the trick. Now she’s quite the accomplished khaki scout!

  1. Adorable! Great buttons! I love that they CLEARLY symbolize different scouting endeavors: sailing, entomology, etc…

I haven’t seen Moonrise Kingdom yet, is it better than The Life Aquatic?
I feel like Wes Anderson’s movies lost their sense of joy when Owen Wilson stopped co-writing them.

  4. Love her! The movie was filmed here in Rhode Island, and we know a few of the scout extras! They used our Boy Scout camp for some scenes. It was fun to recognize various locations!

  5. Oh my, the options are endless with this pattern. I am so inspired Hilary! Our little purpled-haired Louise is my daughter’s favorite doll but she may just need a girl scout buddy. Loved Moonlight Kingdom, especially all the period details…like them drinking Tang!
