cooing and collating

Well I’m finally Aunt Hillary! Thanks Katie for the 8lb 8oz bundle of squirmy cute pink cheek baby! Oscar is very pleased Maggie is here. Last night when we were over there visiting Maggie was crying in the other room while getting her diaper changed and Oscar jumped up and said "I’ll go check on her." gah! I have a feeling things are about to get overwhelmingly cute around here. I’ll try to keep my gushing to a minimum. Plus I don’t think my sister is too keen on me plastering my new niece all over the blog. poo.

In other recent arrival news…the embroidery girls postcards are in and again… gah! they’re cute! We couldn’t be more pleased with how they turned out. I’m so excited about these. I’ve been collating all night and they’re ready to go. They’ll be on sale tomorrow, Wednesday at 12pm Chicago time. Here they are, the Stitchettes!

So that’s what that’s all about. Sale tomorrow, extremely limited edition and then we’re not printing more of these up. It’s on to Fall. Which at "feels like 102" is sounding really good right now.

little squares

I’ve started on my quest to cover the apartment in doll quilts. Tiny tiny squares. Well ok 2" isn’t that tiny but tiny enough for me. I can’t decide if they want to be arranged symmetrically or just jumbled up. I’m thinking the latter. And maybe whipstitching them together instead of sewing them in the machine. Maybe while watching some netflix that have been sitting on top of the tv for about a month now. If you ever wonder how does netflix make any money. Us, it’s us.

Just got off the horn with the printers and looks like middle of next week for embroidery patterns. We’re having postcards made up of the girls and one of each will be included in the set. I can’t wait to see how they turn out! And rockin bunny is on her way too. I think I’ll go ahead and be offline until next week then. Miss Maggie is a week past her arrival date and is coming out in the next few days whether she likes it or not!

covers

You’d think it was the dead of Winter around here the way Oscar is nuts for covers lately. He can’t be sitting on the sofa unless he’s under a pile of covers with all his books and toys jammed under there with him. And the piling! He spends a good part of our indoors time piling all his toys into towers. He walks around muttering pillows, playmobile toys, monster truck, cars… as he gathers everything up. He’s snuggling in. So I thought I’d make him something super puffy. I made this quick and easy quilt from some great japanese fabric our friend Becky passed on to me and some Kona cotton, sewed it up like a pillow case and stuffed it with 4 layers of extra loft poly batting and then tied it down. Pouff!

start practicing your split stitch!

I hope I’m not the only one feeling embroidery-y this Summer. We’re taking a tiny mini break from work on the patternbooks to make the embroidery patterns available for sale. Sometime soon (hopefully this week!) Sam, Ruby, Tilly and Anna will be up in the shop as a set. Throw your name on the mailing list if you’d like to be notified when. If there is enough interest I’d love to do some new designs in the Fall. I’m thinking books, leaves, sweaters, etc. sigh…Fall.

Not that I’m already over Summer but I did get a little sun-smacked this morning at the zoo. Sometimes I really want to be the 2 year old standing directly over the gushing water jets instead of the adult watching.

I want this wall

Check out this page from another favorite library book of mine, Collecting American Country.

A wall of antique doll quilts. I love it! I love the idea of making a slew of delicate, small scale, possibly even handsewn, geometric quilts and then arranging them as one big work of art on the wall. Problem is I have no blank walls. I may have to start on one anyway.
