Oscar decided to set his preying mantis free today. I’m so glad. It was fun to watch him grow from a tiny 1 cm long baby, and fun to watch him chomp on other bugs, but he’s a big guy now and needs his space.

This is fun. Since moving to a new area in the country, we have discovered many preying manti! (plural?) The smallest one we found was about a centimeter long. We only kept it for a day or two before letting it go. Did you keep yours in a bug house and feed it other bugs? How did you keep it so long?

If that one is really as brown as it looks on my computer, it may actually be a her rather than a him. “Hims” are a brilliant green. Glad you guys had this experience…they’re so fun!
