bear bellies

Thanks for all the book love yesterday! I didn't realize how good it would feel to share it finally, even if it is only the sneak peek. One thing I learned while working on the book is that I'm not a big fan of top secret projects. Doing a book is sort of the exact opposite of blogging. I started a blog because I wanted to share my projects, see other people's projects, participate in "a-longs" and swaps, make friends, connect. Working on a book is about holing oneself up for six months and working your butt off all by yourself on something you can't share with anyone. Blogging is in the moment, out there for everyone to see, informal, spontaneous, not afraid of mistakes, organic. I'm happy to be back here full time and I'm very much looking forward to the book becoming part of my online home here. Ok, off to continue my prep for kids clothes sewing week.

Big belly bear hugs to you all!

  1. I’m dying here…so dang cute! Just pre-ordered your book and it is to come on my birthday…best present ever.

  2. Just pre-ordered your book!! Feeling really excited!!! Too many exclamation points, I know… but I can’t help it!!
    🙂

  3. Hey Hilary,
I’ve pre-ordered the book too, and will get it in September. Can’t wait to see all your lovely projects – just in time to whip something up for Christmas. Sending you lots of good crafty vibes from Oz.

  4. it sounds like the book was a bit of a ‘bear’ (har har) but i cannot wait until we and you get to reap all the benefits…you, a published author with STC (woot…that is going to be some book) and us able to sew dozens of things from wee wonderfuls. it cannot come soon enough.
and glad you are back to the blog. missed you so.

  5. The book is GORGEOUS! Congratulations, and I am of course ordering it 🙂 I too am participating next week in the kids clothes sew along. I needed a little shove to get going! I can only imagine how hard it has been for you waiting to spill the beans and show the projects. The inchworm is too sweet!

  6. Can’t wait to get your book. It looks fantastic. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has missed seeing all your works in progress while you worked on the book. The bears are adorable. We have bears on the mind this week as we wait for the zoo to open The Great Bear Wilderness!

  7. You’ve gone and written a book – but that’s fantastic! I can’t wait to see it when it comes out 🙂

  8. This bear is so good – I was peering at his initial appearance, trying to figure out how he was constructed. And now I can know in great detail from your forthcoming soft-things primer!
The book looks incredibly beautiful, Ms. H. I can’t wait to see it in person!
And lastly, you are so right about the secretiveness of book-making…in the world of making things and then sharing them, it feels weird toil away and make and do so much when there is no external proof. 🙂

  9. secrets are happy and sad all in one aren’t they? glad you get to share it with us now. Can’t wait to get a better look when it comes out.

  10. … and that’s so sweet.

  11. Congratulations. I am so happy for you and can’t wait to get the book. Any plans for a book signing in the area…maybe Anderson’s?

  12. I so completely sympathize! I write fiction, but had to start sewing (and sharing!) because I couldn’t stand the isolation. I like feedback, please, thank you. And I really don’t want to wait one, two, three, four years…
And I can’t believe I’m coming out of hiding after almost four years spent following your blog, but there you are. This just resonated me right out of the dark. 😛
