unlocked the pinwheel

Pinwheel no 9 has been quite challenging so far. I'm trying to follow the directions ("after all four units are pieced, sew them together") but finding that's not quite enough info for me. And no cheat codes to be found. I pieced it together the way that seemed the most logical and then ended up with 5" x 5.5" instead of squares. Chopping off the extra on each side seemed to do the trick though and they're lining up. It matches up with the original. Now I just need to find a sub for that white based print that isn't working and then try to remember how I "logically" pieced this together last week. And then make a bunch more and I'll be in business!

Other awesomely pieced things – Phoebe and I were eating cake last night and looking at the tea catalog and both oohing and aahing over this pojagi dress. Love that! Phoebe was also very smitten with this striped number. That one is sooo Phoebe to me. I might need to talk to the Easter Bunny about that.

I’m not a quilter (yet anyway), so I can’t offer you much advice, but I think there might still be a problem with your block. When you sew it to something else at the edges, won’t you be chopping off those lovely points? Maybe there’ssoone missing seam allowance?
    Sorry if I’m way off…!

ummmmmm… what happens when you piece the block INTO a setting with a 1/4 inch seam allowance? your pinwheel points will be truncated into stubby blunt ends.
not sure where the pattern is going awry.
is the pattern inclusive of seam allowances… and you are adding them?
there’s got to be a logical reason why your blocks are turning out too big. but trimming to size will only work if you aren’t sewing them into anything.
    hmmmm.

oh I save the Tea collection catalogs as inspiration. Mine are getting too big to order and I can’t afford it anyway! :) I am so happy to see another frustrated by the instructions. I’m smart but not smart enough, it makes me crazy! btw, the Easter bunny better deliver!

Sorry for my typo up there. It was supposed to say “maybe there’s some missing seam allowance”. Commenting from iPhone = pain in the you-know-what!
