spring stitchette ideas?

Thanks for the house congrats! Before I get too swept up in house stuff (if that’s at all possible) I really want to focus on some wee wonderfuls projects first. Today it’s 30 degrees in Chicago but I swear it feels like 60. I’m not sure if it’s just being out of whack because of the frigid temps we’ve been having or because I’m a baby oven but I’m definitely feeling Spring-ish sensations. So how about some Spring Stitchettes talk. I was thinking it’d be super fun to get idea submissions from you stitchers out there. Maybe your son or daughter would make the perfect stitchette? I need 4 more activities, colors, hair styles, outfits and names. I’m thinking 2 boys and 2 girls again. I don’t want to repeat letters, so far B, H, W, E, P, F, C, I, R, S, A and T have been used. I’ve got a few ideas cooking that I really want to squeeze in there, birds and flowers and maypoles and other Spring things but I’d love to hear what you’d like to see.

  1. I cheer for letter U. It could be Ula with Umbrella and rainboots.
All the best with the house. I loved picking out the wall colors. There is no white in ours. 🙂

  2. G- George, Geoffry, Gregory (or Greg), Giselle, Ginny, Gwendolyn
    D- Doris, Darrin, Delaney, Douglas
and please, one with lots and lots of flowers. and a raindrop one would be cute too. and i love the maypole idea.

  3. How about March winds, April showers, and/or May flowers? (Rain! Umbrellas and boots! Maybe with some flowers. Love those.)
Also where did you get those COOL embroidery floss holder-thingies?? I have a huge embroidery floss wad that needs help.

  4. I think it would be fun to have a child, boy or girl, beginning a garden. You could have a child with a small sprout and a spade, or one crouching down, patting a plant in.
    🙂
    Tammy

  5. I think a little girl playing hopscotch could be very cute!

  6. My J is Jessica (Jessie, Jess), a jumping, jellybean-eating (well, she’s too young, yet, but she does like sweets) jokester. She’s got black hair, choppy bangs, and likes to wear jumpers!

  7. How about a girl; Jenna, with a pony?

  8. A little girl in a dress holding an easter basket with a bunny in it would be cute. Or searching for easter eggs. Umbrellas are a great idea, and tulips and lilacs would be pretty too.

  9. Seems like a kite would be nice. Perhaps Katie’s Kite?
And since I am angling to get my little sweetie into a stitchette, it could be Max around the maypole!

  10. Lets see… Greta Gardens (I like Tammy’s idea with the sprout planting). Lottie’s Laughter with a child playing in the sunshine, I like hopscotch or drawing with chalk.

  11. coming from west texas the land of wind in the springtime and having a kaitlin, i have to second amanda’s vote for a kiteflyin’ katey, katie, or kaitlin. 🙂

  12. All I know is I have been looking for a nice rabbit pattern and would love to stitch some rabbits for spring!

  13. I have a Meaghan – who would love a maypole and how about a little baseball for the boys?

  14. Kites and jump ropes come to mind immediately. Janie Jumps would be awfully cute!

  15. How about Klora? (I’m not biased of course…ahem!)

  16. I have a Katrina with really cute blonde pigtails. I like the kite idea and the may pole. Also, I’d love to see one with a basket of eggs or flowers, for Easter.

  17. L for Lily, with strawberry blonde hair that curls at the ends…holding a lamb? Lily’s Lamb? Or with flowers, Lily’s Lilacs. Lily’s Lilies might be too over the top. lol!
Love the Una’s Umbrella idea and maypole is super cute, too.
    Mike’s Maypole
Kevin’s Kite, Kendall (could be boy or girl) Kyle
I feel like I need a baby name book, lol!

  18. I have a little Mario who is quite mischeivous with very curly hair.
Also, for whatever reason, maybe seeing the word spring and swept, I instantly thought of spring cleaning although I’ve no idea how you’d translate that. This is fun and how nice of you to reach out to your readers!

  19. Congratulations on your wall and attached house! I’m jealous and yet relieved to know you don’t have to do it in order of “buy house, then have babies.” Now as for your stitchettes, I really think my own first name is underused. And Daphne could Dance around the Maypole. 🙂

  20. I’ll second the vote for Lily and add Violet. 🙂

  21. Robin’s eggs are quintessential for spring! Too bad you’ve already used “R”! But you could have a robin with her nest a bit tippy on the branch and, as one of the blue eggs tumbles out, your wonderful sitchette boy or girl rushes to catch it in his or her outstretched hands. To the rescue!

  22. How about these:
Gloria’s Garden (it is spring flowers!)
Nathan’s newborns (maybe some baby sheep?)
and I really like Katie’s Kite
Quinn quilts? (and Quinn could be a boy!)
I dunno – just throwing things out there.

  23. I like Katie’s kite, too… and maybe Maggie’s maypole…:)

  24. Oh! Oh! I want my May birthday baby to be immortalized 🙂 How about Maya’s Maypole? She’s a little blondie with pigtails (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mama_k/256848612/in/set-72057594087661394/)

  25. Lots of wonderful spring ideas have already been suggested, but have you thought about a stitchette that wears glasses? My little Kate wears them, and always feels like she’s the only one in the world who does.

  26. Congrats on the house! Sounds lovely (although I see what you mean about the suburbial angst)
I, too, love all the names that are also flower/plant names, like Georgina, Daisy, Lily (or rather Lilly), Violet, Angelica.
Too bad B is used, Basil is so cute for a boy.
And H for Hazel, hazel is also such a springy plant. And Iris. See, I just have suggestions for the letters you have already used. Rose, Rosemary, Olive. Poppy.
For activities I suggest a girl with a pushbike, a boy with a goose or a lamb, a girl on a swing and a boy planting a seed or wheeling a wheelbarrow.

  27. How about Ginger wears Galoshes? Red hair… freckles?

  28. I vote for a little Irish girl named Bridie.
    Barbara

  29. I have a Mattie, with wild blond curls. He likes to splash in the puddles made by April showers

  30. how about Georgia Grows? i’m seeing a little girl with brown hair and a watering can. she’d have to be wearing a little spring dress with flowers along the hem.

  31. Diana Digs (spade, dirt, flowers)
    Grace Gardens
    Jonah Jumps
    Kelly’s Kite (boy or girl)
    Lola Leaps (jump rope?)
    Malcolm Makes (a treehouse)
    Nolan Naps (dreaming of something)
    Oliver Opens (a window)
    Zach Zooms (on a scooter)
    Congrats on the new house!

  32. I have to throw in my four year olds name which is old fashion and sweet.
L for Lydia with lillies or lilacs.
A little girl holding a sweet bouquet of spring flowers.

  33. I think spring cleaning…
hanging quilts on the line to air out in the sunshine.
Or, sleeves rolled up, apron, feather duster, hair up in a bandana.

  34. Hmmm… I vote for Greta Gardens and Madeline Maypole. Or Madeline finds a Mushroom – one of those cute little red ones with the white polka dots on it!

  35. How about collecting a bouquet of pussy willow?

  36. Oh, such sweet ideas you have already!
I thought of Zella Zips (or it could be Zooms, as above, with Zach) – a little girl on a bicycle. (stitching wheels would be so fun!)
Nicholas Nails (a little boy with a hammer)
    Xavier’s Xylophone
And random names that occur to me:
    Lila
    Viola
    Mack
    Darcy
    Dagny
I love all the spring ideas – gardens, bunnies, raindrops, umbrellas, flowers. Fun!

  37. 1. Yay for the house. That’s great! I’m interested in seeing how Oscar’s bread plant works out. That’s the cutest thing I’ve heard (read?) all day 2. I’ll see your Umbrella and I’ll raise you a watering can!

  38. I happen to love bunnies and duckies in the springtime. I also can’t wait to see green grass and begin gardening.
In the spring, all the kids get out on their bikes again and they play in their playhouses or backyard tents outside.
My daughter likes to “help” in the kitchen and in the garden.
I can’t wait to see what you decide!

  39. I’ve got two little J’s, blonde Josie and little brunette Jasper.
Josie’s Posies? [that’s what we call the tiny bouquets of apple blossoms, grape hyacinth, violets, etc that we pick all spring long]
    Josie Jumpropes?
    Jasper Jumps [in puddles]?
hmmm, needs more thoughts! Can’t wait for another round to stitch up!

  40. I have a Gwen who loves flowers, so how about Gwen’s Garden?

  41. How about yo-yo’s? Yolanda and her yo-you or a little girl named Flora, somewhere in the mix. Love the stitchettes! I’ll look forward to spring.

  42. my son would make a perfect stitchette 🙂 he has brown hair and green eyes.
“Gael and a green grasshopper in the garden”

  43. Chicks are awfully cute. Callie’s Chicks or Calvin’s Chicks??
    I thought of Katie/Kite too.
Just so happens I have a Katie :o)

  44. How fun! My kids and I came up with these-and I don’t know if these are repeats-
Names:Greta,Jennie, Jane, Jack, Kenny, Libby, Leo, Louie,Lexi,Mary, Marty,Max,Megan, Nate, Nick, Olivia, Vince, Walter,Wyatt, Zoe.
Activities or ideas: dump truck, violets, wiggles(maybe a hula hoop or worms), kicks(soccer), daydreams, wishes(maybe blowing a dandelion), dances(maypole), grasshopper, ladybugs, gardening, decorates(eggs), jumps(puddles, pogo stick, jump rope), nest(maybe a boy looking up at a bird nest), lunch(picnic), jelly beans, lollipops, galoshes, magnifying(boy with a magnifying glass looking at bugs).

  45. Love the maypole idea and the boots and umbrella. Maybe also Easter bonnet as in Easter Parade? And I can’t resist voting for Jennifer.

  46. Gretchen, Vivian? How about a clothes-line with flowers vining on the poles, a swing-set or porch swing?

  47. lion and lamb are good combos especially given the saying about march coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb.
lots of rain in spring, so ducks and rain coats and galoshes?
or with st. patty’s coming up, a shamrock theme is always nice.

  48. Leila its my daughters name so I am biased but it might sound more like a summer name then a spring name now that I think about it *smile*

  49. how about april showers bring may flowers, i’m seeing a cute girl with pigtails in a raincoat and really cute rain boots, maybe a puddle next to her with a frog or duck in it?

  50. My spring baby is Lucia – Lulu for short – and she Loves to Laugh & Leap & Lick Lollipops & hug baby Lambs & search for Ladybugs & drink Lemonade. She’s a beauty with long, straight brown hair and dancing brown eyes!

  51. All I know about Spring is that my Maria will be mixing up a lot of mudpies! Help!

  52. How about a little boy named Jack (my son 🙂 ). Blonde hair, blue eyes holding a nest with blue robins eggs in it or some forsythia branches (yellow blooms)??? Boys like to go exploring.

  53. Well, for spring I picture my little ones holding a ladybug, jumping in puddles with galoshes, standing under tiny umbrellas, flying kites, swinging on swings, watering our plants with a little watering can.
I’m not sure what your other names were….how about Gracie’s Garden, Kate’s Kite, George’s Galoshes or Jack/Jake/Josh Jumps, and Luke/Logan/Lily’s Ladybug?
My daugher Gracie has blue eyes and light brown hair, and my Henry has sandy hair and grey eyes. And they are beautiful! :0)

  54. Darla, Garby, Jack, and Lizzie

  55. How bizarre – I was actually wondering what the spring stitchettes might be this morning. Just ironed the winter ones to get them ready for stitching the other night. May I put in a request for a girl that looks Asian? I changed the hair colors on one of the first stitchettes to reflect my daughter’s appearance, but one with her heritage in mind would be fantastic. Perhaps tied into Chinese New Year – sort of springy – celebrating the beginning of the planting season. While I’m at it I may as well throw in my son’s name for one of the boys – Glenn. Perhaps on a bike – Glenn’s Gears? I know it’s spring when I see kids whipping down the block on their bikes again.

  56. What if your Spring Stitchettes were animal children (kid bodies with animal heads) — like a deer boy or a hedgehog girl?

  57. zany zoe plays her zither full of (zeal/zest)
    or gathers her zuccini
my zoe is has dark hair and wears her pigtails in tight little balls on her head!

  58. PS Zoe is partly Asian

  59. Quintina Quilts…or Quentin, or Queenie. But Queenie was my neighbor’s black lab, so maybe that’s weird.

  60. Because Spring is typically host to tons of weddings, how about Lilly playing wedding-dress-up with Lily-of-the-Valley flowers -either in bouquet/ground/etc. (There are actually pink Lily-of-the-Valley flowers too.) You could have a set and have a little boy playing dress-up in a tux or suit.
An Asian girl or boy would be lovely with cherry blossoms and I love the suggestion of the bird’s nest 🙂 Other names that come to mind, Dabney and daffodils.

  61. My son Kirby (5)Wearing his jumper inside out wearing 3D glasses collecting our chickens eggs today (I am so annoyed i didnt get the camera!)
If I had your skills this is what I would stitch!
My favourite names are….(for future babies!)
    Loretta
    Mimi
    Sophia
    Madeline
    Pebble
    Sherlock (boy)
    Jamie (boy)

  62. Ok, I have to put in my two cents here too.
I’ll admit my bias and put my vote in for Korie’s kite or Korie’s kitten. My little Korie has shiny black hair & what my mother calls a Dorothy Hamill.
Spring time, tire swing time or simply tree climbing time. I could see Tanner’s tree swing or Tucker’s tree.
    Good luck choosing!

  63. madison’s magical maypole

  64. I’m thinking about a Z…Zoe’s Zinnias perhaps? And if she’s anything like my blonde, curly, crazy girl then she has a bundle of Zinnias in one hand, a spade in the other and some dirty, dirty overalls!
Congratulations on the house! Can’t wait to see pics!

  65. Little Louise with a little lamb ???????

  66. Jeanie jumps for jumping rope?
Olivia offers–a little girl kneeling and feeding birds?
    Delia’s daisy chain.
Hmmm, these are all girls. What about Jack juggles?

  67. oh, bird’s nest in a tree w/a climbing kiddo? this family is 1/2 japanese, so maybe straight black bangs? i love the whole idea of the stitchettes and know i will have to have the spring set no matter what you decide!
congratulations of the house! it’s so beautiful when dreams come true…

  68. I vote for spring gardening! I remember one spring I dug in the mud in the middle of “spring showers” in my rain coat and boots because I was so determined to help those little seeds grow. Can’t wait to see whatever you come up with, I’m sure it will be great, they always are.

  69. Daphne holding a daffodil, or Daisy holing a…daisy. Obviously you need someone holding an umbrella–what about a dripping wet puppy or kitty as well?
Or ducks! imprinting on a cute little kid with yellow rainboots.

  70. I’m a brandy-new reader (just bookkmarked you last week) and love Tammy’s idea about the garden.
I’m working on building an educational fund for the children in my husband’s rural hometown in China, and the idea immediately struck me when I read your post to combine forces! You could name them Mei-mei (literally “little sister” but also used for “little girl”) and Di-di (“little brother”/ “little boy”)…
Anyway, I’m not sure how this works, but there’s my two cents. :o) Your site rocks!

  71. Well, seeing as how we are all campaigning to immortalize our little cuties I guess I’ll chime in and vote for a Gwendolyn. My little one has light brown/dark blond hair. I’m sure whatever you choose will be adorable 🙂

  72. Max’s Mumblypeg

  73. Well, scratch that — got my Mumbly Peg mixed up with Bocce. Mumbly Peg is a bit of a horror, no?

  74. I also have a Gracie (actually Grace Anne) who has light brown hair and blue eyes and loves to garden. I also have a Miles with big blue eyes and blonde hair who would love to mow, but is more likely to build forts, climb trees, or go fishing.

  75. Jazzy Jaylene… with a bunch of musical instruments.

  76. Lucy’s Ladybugs, or Lucy in Lavender? My Lucy loves lavender, and all kinds of bugs.
Goodwin’s Garden, or Goodwin’s Gate? Like a neat, old style garden gate? My Goodwin can’t wait to get back outside to explore the yard.
I love all the ideas- it gives me some! Too bad you already used S- I have a Sophie and a Sadie too!

  77. oh my – i don’t think i have much to add. I do like the rainboots/umbrella/puddle idea, the kite. What about a bicycle or a scooter? Hopscotch would be cute, Jumping Rope too.

  78. Well since my little girl has a “P” name I’ll put in a vote for my friend’s son Kyson. A very unique name so nothing is never named for little Kyson. Perhaps Kyson’s Kite? or Kyson kicks a soccer ball? (he really does like to kick a soccer ball). Brown hair, green eyes 🙂
    Can’t wait to see them.

  79. I hope you do more boys as I would like to make them into a quilt for my grandson Callum. He loves farm animals and trucks and is a sweet blonde blue eyed boy with a favorite dinosaur named Bruce who goes everywhere with him.

  80. I like Nellie for a girl. How about a curly haired little girl. I’m a curly girl and I never see curls. How about a little girl bending over or lying on her tummy to smell or look closely at the first blooms of spring.
    Nola notices nature!
Love your work/site and congrats on the new home.

  81. To me, spring is all about bunnies, and flowers. My favorite flower right now is the cherry blossom. How about something with tiny tons of sweet pink blossoms? You know…you can make yo yo’s in shapes of hearts and cherry blossoms? Some posted on my blog (heart yo yo pix anyhow, right now).

  82. Spring has always been about crocus, bunnies, planting the garden, but this year it is soccer. Since you have used E… for Emma….. For Gillian makes a goal….. Forward Passing Finn..
just ideas… I am sure you will come up with something marvelous!

  83. My girls always seem to do more un-planting then planting so how about Un-planting Ursula.

  84. Dean’s Ducks!
My Dean is a dark blonde mop-top with big blue eyes….

  85. I have a Maggie (Mary Margaret) (4)who just planted her garden. She loves to wear dresses and carry her Miss Kitty around. She is very thin…and your stitchettes normally have very round faces that don’t look like my girl. Baby Brother Davis like to play with his firetrucks in the yard.

  86. My daughters name is Georgia, she could be in the garden, her favorite word at 19 months is “puppy” she has a golden retriever named Daisy.

  87. Are you a college basketball fan? M—–‘s March Madness?

  88. Well, my kids are mixed(black & white) with brown curly hair. I think it might be nice to see something along those lines. Also, my son is huge into basketball and sleeps with four basketballs in bed, carries one around quite a bit. Anyways, congrats on the house and I can’t wait to see what you come up with for the stitchettes.

  89. Nautical Noah in a little sailor suit holding a toy boat.

  90. wow! so many great suggestions. thanks everyone! I can’t wait to get sketching.
note on race..I do have diversity in there. I guess it’s hard to tell since the drawings are just outlines with very spare facial details. it’s really just a matter of what floss colors you chose. any of the designs can be customized to match your little ones!

  91. My daughter’s name is Lulu, She is 3 years old, has long, straight brown hair with babydoll bangs. Her current passions include horses and the alphabet. Maybe she would be better in the Fall for ‘Back to School’.

  92. I’ve already chimed in once, but I wanted to add that I would *love* to see a little curlyheaded boy. One of my sons has big fat blondish curls. But most every depiction of boys I see anywhere has them with straight hair.
Oh, and my boys love wearing hats – what about a child in a bucket hat? or a baseball cap?
(I also like the suggestion above about having a child wearing glasses.)

  93. My son Logan is 2 yrs old, has brown curls and eyes, and likes sheep (lambs). I think the lamb idea in general would be really cute b/c you could use so much texture for its fleece! You could even do a patchwork/mottled lamb; I saw one over here http://getting-stitched-on-the-farm.blogspot.com/2007/02/holstein-sheep-is-this-patchwork-lamb.html

  94. Holy smokes! I’m slow checking in today, but wow! look at the responses (all amazing) that you’ve gotten so far.
I have a sweet girl, Lauren and she loves flowers and ladybugs. She has blue eyes long blond hair and it flows so sweetly when the wind blows.
    L – Lauren’s ladybugs
    Lauren’s lovely lilacs
    Lauren learns about bugs?
    Lauren lingers (amongst the flowers)
H – Hope helps (watering the garden?)
Hope hides (behind a tree w/some flowers? and just her face, hair and bit of her dress shows)
Hope i’ve helped! : ) Can’t wait to see the bread plant. How cute is that?

  95. ok. nevermind the H. Apparently I can’t keep track of the letters.

  96. I think Jonquil would be a wonderful spring Stitchette girl’s name.

  97. And, double-posting, it’s so sweet and happy to read everyone’s glowing descriptions of the cuties in their lives!

  98. OK how about..
    A for Alice or Arabella
D for Daphne or Dahlia, Dora or Dot
G for Gloria, Ginny or Gilbert for Juniper or Janfrey
    K for Katrine or Kiri

  99. I love your website. I have a friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Her three year old daughter and my son are friends since they were babies. I made Anne (the mother) and Milly (her daughter) two of your dolls. One doll has no hair and a head scarf for Anne and one is made for Milly. They have been an enormous sense of comfort and teaching for both. Thank you for your creativity and inspiration. You are an amazing lady and people are thanking you in Sydney, Australia.

  100. March Winds
    April Showers
    bring forth
    May Flowers

  101. How about bird watching or butterfly chasing?

  102. A name with a G for gardening!!!! A little trowel or a seedling…..oh, yeah.

  103. I love the multiracial idea, whatever names and ideas you choose!

  104. Spring in New England is its own unique being – I immediately thought Mud and Maple Syrup! “Spring” as in green grass and flowers doesn’t really come until May – Easter is often kinda brown – but the first thaw and playing in all the glorious Mud is pretty cute, and Maple Sugaring, well, that is pretty special! Old-fashioned sap buckets would look great in embroidery.

  105. How about A for Abby or Abigail?
    Abby’s Appleblossoms?
dark curly hair with blue eyes (and I had glasses when I was younger, much like another poster’s daughter mentioned further up.
I also like Zoë’s zinneas, like mentioned further up!

  106. Here’s a pic of my little Nina last spring, if it’s any inspiration. Although, I second the name jonquil, that’s very pretty.

  107. i think you should have a boy playing croquet and a little girl pushing a baby buggy, or looking into a bird cage.
the boy should have some sort of argyle-socks or a vest i don’t know why…
why not have a baby stitchette in honor of junebaby

  108. you have about a million suggestions! LOL! My daughter Megan is a ballerina. I’d love to see a stitchette for that! Rosemary

  109. Quentin paints.
Queenie loves herself (Mama’s dress up).

  110. I love the letters M & L – my kids inspired these ideas (maybe because my little boy just started the messy “feed yourself” phase), but how about “Mateo” (boy with bib & spoon in hand and bowl, flinging peas off into space) and Lena (girl eating (dripping) Ice Cream)?
…that could be combined with another boy cooking (flinging pancake in the air to flip it?) and another girl baking (girl in apron with bowl, licking batter off spoon).
I don’t know if this is inspired by my kids DOING these things right now (they DO), or because I didn’t have breakfast yet, but somehow I cam up with a bunch of spring food-stuff… 🙂

  111. Hmmm, not sure what goes with X but I have an XAVIER here. 😉

  112. I thought of another – maybe a D name dancing. My girl (not a D) loves to be a ballerina or princess. Or maybe just D Dresses Up.
I can’t think of any creative D names.

  113. I would love a kid with a yellow hat and coat like the seaman have, not sure what it is called in English and hopping in puddles with a rainbow overhead for April’s unpredictable weather.

  114. I would use flower-names for the spring-kids: aster (which is my girl, but is also a boy’s name), dahlia, violet, rose,…
I also like Maya, Isis, Zita for your stitchette-girls
a girl with a very veryvery short dress taking some flowers..
a little lamb that gets a bottle milk..
    little kittens or little chicks..
a cockhafer (a very big european insect, very lovely with antennae!)
playing with an paper-folded-boat in the water
looking in the water as it was a mirror
    ..

  115. I would use flower-names for the spring-kids: aster (which is my girl, but is also a boy’s name), dahlia, violet, rose,…

a girl with a very veryvery short dress taking some flowers..

  116. sorry, it’s a cockchafer…

  117. sorry, it’s a cockchafer…

  118. Whoo! I know I’m late in commenting on this, but I thought I’d throw in my suggestion anyway (and I apologize if someone else suggested this. I just can’t read all of the comments right this moment): Zelda (or Zora) at the Zoo! I know when I was in school, we always went to the zoo in the Spring! That’s probably too sprawling for the space, but it’s a thought (maybe standing at an arch that says “Zoo”?) anyway, good luck and congrats on the house! I’m loving watching your wee quilts develop!!!!

  119. one more….. How about an adorable little Japanese girl named Maki under a branch of cherry blossoms feeding a little bird? Maki’s May Morning…

  120. “D” for Delaney..I’m of course partial because that is my daughter’s name. Delaney Doodles?
Dances? Drenched? (under an umbrella) Dips? (toe in a puddle) Ok, I am now done with my shameless push to see my daughter’s name on a Stitchette.
