three!

help! this big boy ate my baby. actually he says he’s a little boy because he’s not ready for the things big boys do yet (peeing in the potty, blowing his own nose, etc). but he seems awfully big to me.

we’ve been busy birthday’ing it up around here. a trip to the lego train exhibit, lots and lots of presents. of course with his birthday so close to christmas his birthday presents tend to be more of the useful variety. clothes, books, learning toys. the gluttony of cars we save til xmas. he was very happy with everything though. “ooh, new red shoes”. he’s in his new birthday duds modeling for the xmas card picture here. this isn’t the one we’re going with but I do think it sums up 3 very well.

happy birthday boxcar!

  1. The look on his face IS the definition of three! Happy Birthday! Oh, and thanks for the Elves- I am working on them now!

  2. what a dapper boy you are oscar! happy birthday boxcar 🙂 (and i’m glad mine’s not the only three-year-old who doesn’t blow his own nose and doesn’t do all of his business on the potty) maybe it’s not cool to do all that yet, who knows 😉

  3. Happy Birthday big guy! I’m practically a Christmas baby too – so I know how it goes…have a wonderful day!

  4. Oh Happy Birthday little cutie! I want some cool red shoes. He’s exactly a month older than mine.

  5. Happy Birthday, little man. We’re 11 days away from a train filled 3rd birthday at our house. And my robot/spaceboy pattern arrived yesterday, so thanks!

  6. Oh my, look out girls!

  7. oh-he is so stylin’ here and sooooo 3. I love the look-Happy B-day Oscar!

  8. Happy Birthday, Big Boy! I hope the year ahead brings you all the trains and happiness that a fella could wish for!

  9. Happy Birthday Oscar!

  10. Are you kidding? I don’t know the kid but I think this pic sums up the way you’ve described his personality quite well.
He has such great hair! My son is in a constant state of bed head! What a cute boy!

  11. is that attitude i see? love the new red kicks kid! happy birthday!

  12. Oh my gosh, he looks so GQ and cool in that casual pose, car nonchalantly in hand. Happy Birthday, Oscar!

  13. Happy Birthday Oscar!

  14. my oh my. how they grow so fast!
    happy birthday oscar.

  15. My son wasn’t potty trained until he was three. He didn’t want to go on the potty. Then one day he decided he was a big boy and stopped sucking his thumb and going in the potty all at once. My daughter is a lot more mature and has been potty trained for about 6 months and she turns 3 in January. Girls are so different.

  16. Whoops forgot to say Happy Birthday! Cute Kid!
Don’t kids think they are the coolest in new clothes?

  17. Maybe the dingo ate your baby.
    Happy Birthday!

  18. Happy birthday, Oscar! Gosh, you are getting big! I remember when Mommy was getting ready for your first birthday and now you are three!
Hillary, first borns always take a while to catch on to things like using the potty. Once my daughter got around other kids she realized that kids do DO stuff for themselves! I think she thought the potty was just for grown ups in spite of what I told her!

  19. Happy Birthday Dude! It’s gotta be tough having your birthday in the same month as Christmas. And yes, they grow up WAY too quickly. Savor the moments (the good ones and the bad ones). 🙂

  20. ummmm Boxcar looks rather ridiculously cool in this photo. Just make sure he doesn’t start hanging out with the Sharks OR Jets, okay?
xoxo & happy birthday to the lil’ O!

  21. My little boy turned 3 just yesterday and I know exactly what you mean by it going way too fast! He got a Thomas the Train set for his birthday…must be that age group they enjoy it more.

  22. three? WOW!! happy birthday to the “little” boy…it’s been fun watching him grow up here.

  23. Oscar is just too cool and too cute. Love those new red shoes. Happy Birthday little boy.

  24. you’re really not going with that one? it is AWESOME.

  25. I love red shoes!! I had a pair when I turned 11 and adored them!
Happy Birthday Oscar!! They grow up so fast!

  26. Happy number 3 Oscar!! Very cool red shoes indeed.

  27. Happy Birthday, Oscar! The red shoes rock.

  28. Happy birthday little big boy! I sounds like the birthday outing was a blast!

  29. Goodness me – he’s all growed up !
    When did that happen ?
    Happy Birthday Oscar !

  30. happy birthday…what a cutie!

  31. I think he looks like he’s feeling pretty grown up. He’s just kickin’ back waiting for his cocoa like the other guys. Happy Birthday Oscar! 3 is such a fun age. And one day he will decide he is all grown up(without tell you of course) and you better not call him a little boy or he’ll flip out on you. Ask me how I know :o)

  32. What a handsome little man! He looks ready for college, actually! Happy birthday, Oscar!

  33. Can we have toy recommendations?! what did boxcar get?

  34. Happy Birthday “Big” Little boy! I love the red shoes. I buy every one that I see that my little girl can fit in!

  35. Happy Birthday from Portugal!

  36. Happy 3rd Birthday Oscar! I love your new shoes :o)
He looks so grown up, cute photo.
We’re all Christmas birthdays in this house. My little boy will be 2 on the 20th and my ‘little’ girl will be 6 on the 23rd, where does that time fly to????

  37. Oh, goodness! Really? Time does fly. Happy, Happy Birthday big little boy!

  38. The picture is adorable and I wish him a super happy birthday!

  39. I refer to this as the biglittle stage. One minute “Oh your so BIG” and the next minute you are looking at their tiny wrists and thinking how little and fragile they still are.
And my oh my if he keeps those poses up you are going to be screening some calls in about 12 years.
Lastly – why do the Gods favor you? Because clearly you found the most kickass kid’s chair EVER. You totally have my email and better use it if you and Tim have a moving sale. I’ll be the lady camped out on your street at 5am.

  40. PS – Don’t even sweat the potty. Mack just got it one weekend after he turned 3. Just keep plying him with subliminal messages via potty DVD’s playing all the time.

  41. don’t blink mom and dad….the time goes fast!
    happy birthday Oscar 🙂

  42. happy birthday oscar! three is so very cool. enjoy it.

  43. Oh he looks to have a little bit of the sassy weewonderful personality…heheh or is that the Im too cool for this chair persona? Either way I can’t resist giggling at those shoes…I love them!! I’m sure you could almost see the outfit as you picked them out!! Have a merry Christmas and know that I do not comment frequently but always adore your creativity!

  44. Happy Birthday!!!!!
My baby turns three tomorrow… I can’t believe it!!!!

  45. Darn that little Oscar is ADORABLE! Happy Birthday little man! The red shoes ROCK!

  46. He is just too handsome! LOVE the shoes!!

  47. what a cutie! and love those new red sneaks.
it’s nice to hear (in the comments too) that there are other three-year-olds out there who aren’t peeing in the potty! i just keep reminding myself that one of these days mine will decide that she’s ready and that will be it.
she also denies being a ‘big girl’ – she insists, “no, i’m a boy!”
    they’ll get it…
i just love this biglittle stage!

  48. Happy Birthday Little Big Boy!

  49. My boy turns three Jan 5, too! Your “Help! This big boy ate my baby!” pretty much sums up EXACTLY how I feel about my baby growing up. I have a feeling I’ll be crying lots when he turns three, it seems like its just not possible for him to be three yet!

  50. I can’t believe how big he is! Hmm… my little one has always said he’s big, but still won’t do “big kid” stuff. Let’s hope yours admits to being little for a while longer.
And hey… useful gifts are the best!! Zach’s five, and still gets excited over a toothbrush in his stocking or a new (old) set of Childcraft books.

  51. hurray for 3! we are anticipating that magic number in a couple months ourselves- love the age and yes, he has a head start in “the cool look”.
3 year old boys are the best! 🙂

  52. Too cute! I tease my two children (six and three) that I will give them a time out if they keep growing up-it is going by way too fast. Enjoy, and Happy Birthday to your son:) P.S. My son (six) wants one of your robots for Christmas-I better get sewing!

  53. Happy big 3 cool guy!
btw I love the rocking chair!

  54. This is belated due to business around work.. but Happy Birthday Oscar!!!! 3 is such a wonderful/magical age. Still not a baby, but not a big boy as Oscar puts it. They are still so sweet at this age… and still have their little voice (even though Em seems to not be getting rid of hers).

  55. Happy Birthday to him!! He is adorable 🙂 I love his outfit!

  56. So cute… my Fred is 3 on Christmas day and has Thomas the Tank Engine high on the list of wants! He would love that gorgeous Christmas train you have. I can’t seem to find a nice one here in the UK apart from a really crummy plastic one for £30 which will be sat on by baby Arthur within minutes!

  57. Woa! Look at those red tennies! I love them. I used to get red ones for the kid when he was young. My heart pangs for those younger years (he’s now 13). How absolutely adorable!
