cub twins

Four days with the husband home, that’s how you get stuff done. Hope everyone had a fun 4th! Ours was pretty good. I’m almost over the stinging disappointment of Oak Park’s ridiculously bad parade. I’ve acclimated to the no more floats thing but no bands?! no shriners? no classic cars? no twirlers? Even the cool librarian book cart drill team were absent. sigh. But marching band withdrawal aside, we did manage to have a productive weekend and that always makes me happy. While Tim and Oscar whipped this place into shape I spent most of the time in the craft room working on some new designs.

These new bears are for a friend of ours who is expecting twin nieces or nephews this Fall.

I’m really happy with how they turned out. It was so much fun to work
on teddy bears. They’re good and squishy with floppy hands and feet and
in a nice gender neutral palette I think. They’re a little big. I
always think these toys are going to turn out smaller and then when
they’re done I realize oops, that’s bigger than the baby it’s for. My first attempt
was more right on size-wise but I didn’t like the shape. Guess it just
sort of expanded when I reworked it. Oh well, a toy you can grow with
right?

since I had Oscar’s swaddling blanket out for a prop I thought I’d try my hand at twin swaddling…

I was spurred on by this bear design to try out a new girl doll design. I’m still working on her hair and outfit but maybe tomorrow I’ll have her done. What’s funny about her is how I try all these new things and then in the end she came out looking very much like other dolls I’ve made. She’s a close sister to Dagmar. Guess she’s just the doll I want to make. Well enough with tomorrow’s post today.

The new flickr group link is up on the sidebar. refresh.. cute! refresh.. CUTE! And hey, got some happy news from the printer that the new put-together books have shipped! If you’re on the reprint list you’ll be hearing from me soon.

just think of all the love these bears will get in their lifetime! all my kids still drag their bears around and have them very close to their hearts…how cool that you have been able to contribute to that memory and security.

  5. how utterly cuddle-able. they are *so* entirely sweet.

  6. They are so cute!! I love the colours, and I love how they look when they are swaddled. Sweetness overload!

  11. ok hillary you’ve reached a new high with this pair of bears – i absolutely adore them!

  12. Gorgeous, as usual.

  13. My gawd! Those bears are cuteness personified!

  17. oh dear, what cute bears. and the perfect colors. you should curtsy.

  18. Absolutely adorable!

  19. The cuteness is killing me. As a grown woman I want to play with these!

  20. They are ADORABLE! And I love waffle weave … I feel warm just looking at it, and I think that’s because the waffle blankets we had worked just so damn well at swaddling Max, at a time when *nothing* seemed to work the way it was supposed to …
Sorry about your parade! Ours had the wacky Shriners in go-carts, and plenty of horses, but only 3 floats and I was sad. Also, no marching bands. Sad.
Again, I just love these bears.

  21. I love these. Twins. Really, really adorable. I recently used some similar waffle fabric as some blocks on a baby blanket. The recipient pointed out to me how wonderful the texture would be for exploration by little baby hands. I love how you used it on these softies.

  22. They are of course fabulous. I don’t think they’re too small. Newborns don’t play with them anyway, so by the time the babies are big enough to play their little teddy friends will be just the right size.
Ooh how exciting re the reprint. I’m on the list!!

  23. simply adorable!

  24. Just love those twin bears and your fabric choices are always perfect. Your endless talent continues to amaze me.
(Come to our parade next year. We had 5 bands and lots of fire trucks that Oscar would love. The parade ran 2-hrs. but nothing says you can’t leave early.)

  25. So super cute! And hey, you’re pretty good at twin swaddling–maybe you should have a set…JK 🙂

  26. beautiful! the perfect gift for a newborn.

  27. absolutely wonderful!

  28. I would say that those swaddled bears are the cutest thing, but when they’re swaddled, you can’t see their pants. I love the pants. So cute.

  29. I love the teddy bears!! Any plans to offer a pattern? Or some additional ones to the cutie gifts above you made for the twins in your store?? And…how do you get on the reprint list for the patterns?

  30. Those are just adorable! I love waffle weave on almost anything but they are just perfect on those two little cuties! Hopefully they’ll make it into one of your pattern books.

  31. Those are so cute!

  32. Your first attempt is just as adorable..lol

  33. Those little guys are too much! Your friend is going to love them!

  34. They look just like little gumnut babies – May gibbs style, all rugged up like that – http://www.maygibbs.com/

  35. Those bears ar gorgeous, what lucky little babies!

  36. I love them! I’m going to have to buy your pattern book the next time it comes out — they make such wonderful baby presents.

  37. i heart the cub twins…

  38. Awwwww! Adorable!

  39. oh i like the new bears better!
    they’re so chubby!
uff uff… im organizing Baby Lilo’s one year party – any thoughts on how to survive?

  40. Simply. Adorable! That is the sweetest set of bears. Well done! The kids will love them.

  41. so adorable! i would loooovve the pattern!

  42. Am I the only one who doesn’t know from waffle weave swaddling blankets? Is that a hand-knit? Is that an item that lurks in the back of every buy-stuff-for-kids store, hidden away in the practical-but-wonderful section?
If anyone can enlighten me, please, do tell.

  43. adorable!!!!!!!

  44. The thing about the 4th of July is that school isn’t in session. That makes it very hard to organize a band – most of which are associated with schools. Additionally, 4th of July can get really really hot, which royally sucks in wool OR polyester band uniforms.
The bands I’ve usually seen around then are like firemen’s bands or somesuch. Community type bands.
Anyhow, I lurv your bears, and I just ordered my put together book! Yay! Thanks!

  45. Ahhhhhhh! Ahhhhhhhh! (Cause, you know, twins.)

  46. c’est vraiment adorable!!!

  47. LOVE these bears! They are so sweet. What a wonderful gift they will make.

  48. Super cute!!! The waffle fabric is a great choice. (I was wondering what do you call that kind of fabric in English, and reading previous comments found you call it waffle fabric too – I thought ‘vohvelikangas’ (=waffle fabric) was just a silly finnish name for it…)

  49. I love them! I need the pattern please!

  50. I ADORE the bear cubs. Any chance you will be selling a pattern for them? You are my inspiration!
