her fashions set the pace!

While searching through the box of my old dolls looking for inspiration for Month of Softies I found my beloved Darci doll. I remember every outfit, every bangle bracelet, every gold shoe. She was my favorite! So much better than dumb old Barbie.

Darci Cover Girl. "She’s stylish and classy, sometimes sassy, her fashions set the pace!" She had her own super-deluxe van, a dynamite disco and fahions by the dozens! I didn’t have the van or disco but I did have quite a few of her outfits. Here’s a fabulous purple tiered number. Notice the flower tied around her neck. So stylish!

And here’s the wedding dress I made her.

with matching bag of course.. bias tape makes a lovely bag.

Some of her press that I kept in her portfolio.

As you can see Oscar just loves her too. Guess my hopes of him being the next Oscar de la Renta are dashed. Or maybe he just doesn’t like her retro disco style.

Oh that’s so fun! I recently found my box of old Barbie’s (yes, I was not as lucky to have a darci doll!), and all the fabulous disco dancin’ clothes that my nana made for her in the 70’s!

ohh I had a DARCI too and she totally kicks ass over Barbie! I gave her away along with so many other dolls 🙁
so in college I actually bought another Darci at a doll show.
My main doll was a “my friend mandy” doll-do you remember her? You could buy sewing patterns for her clothes, so mom made a ton-I will post soon-

Poor Oscar, up for bid at Wee Auctions : )
It does not surprise me a bit that you had a Darcy portfolio with press.

im guessing darci might be getting some new “vintage” clothes soon to go with that lovely wedding dress? its nice to see that you were talented at such an early age!

oh, wow…I had a my friend mandy doll as well…I have not thought about her in years…
I did not have a darci doll…but I did have barbie. I have a pair of jeans for her that has a real zipper in them. a little tiny working zipper. craziness. but I had my most fun playing with my weeble tree house.

I never had a Darci doll. Lots of Barbies, but my favorite was Kelley. I also had one of the original Blythe dolls. I still remember barely being able to wait until Christmas morning so that I could play with her.

Hee hee! I love that pic of Oscar wincing near the Darci doll. And oh my, what a blast from the past! I forgot I had a Darci doll until you posted this! Nuts! I also had a Jem doll. I think she was my favorite, because of the pink hair…but then I also loved my Romance (or something like that) Barbie, with her red velvety dress and little heart stamper…
    =)

I know I’m older than all of you, because when I was little the movie Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang came out and I had a Barbie Truly Scrumptious doll. She was my most favorite, beautiful doll! Thanks for the memories, Hillary!

Oh wow – I had a Darci (the redhead), and she was my favorite! I even had the “photo studio” set so I could take pictures of her.
Of course, I also loved my Cher and Wonder Woman dolls, but Darci was the best!

I am a few years younger, so instead I had the much more wholesome Maxi, who was younger and more fun than Barbie with her pretty in pink prom outfit and matching white cowboy boots, as well as the also wholesome Heart family.
Although I think my most prized possesion was a vintage redhead Midge, and all the clothes my mom had sewn for her in her childhood. Midge was way prettier than Barbie.

omg, I’d totally forgotten how sweet Darci’s face is. I had the brunette, & the disco set. Long gone now though… 🙁

Mandy! Right on! I’ve got Mandy right here in this box of dolls too. She’s a little worse for wear. Some sort of ink accident on her forehead and some nasty split ends. I also had Cher – loved her so much! I lost her to a neighbor I think.
yes, that was my April Fools, Oscar up for auction. no takers though.
oh, by the way, pointing out that you’re younger than me is not allowed on my weblog 😉

Wow! I have a brown hair Darci that I took off my parents hands when they moved and needed to get rid off my old stuff. My little boy has been playing with her for a few years now! His name is Oliver, and he thought it was cool to see Oscar next to yours. So funny. He loves her silver shoes, which I somehow managed not to lose. Definitely cooler than Barbie… though I thought my Cher doll was pretty excellent with her long black and silver dress with the major side slit. Hot mamma. Darci is currently borrowing her dress. And I still have a few of My Friend Mandy’s clothes… but I have no idea where she would have gone, and wish I still had her. I think I refered to her as my best friend back in the day. Love her tan cordouroy coat with faux fur trim So cool. Thanks for the memories.

    Hello!
This is kinda creepy- my best friend (since forever) and Barbie cohort was over the other day. We were just talking about our Darci Covergirl dolls! She had a brunette and I had the blonde. I LOVED her! I still have her.
She was (is) so much more satisfying than Barbie. She was even the subject of photos when I was in art school…….(ahem 17 yrs ago).
Sigh- thanks for the memory! I need to go rescue her from the attic. This could be her way of telepathically calling me. Plus I have 2 girls of my own who will enjoy her…..
    thanks again!

How did I miss out on Darci? One of my very best friends for my whole life is a real-life (in name, not plastic doll-looks) Darci, and I didn’t know there was a doll with her name?!?! What’s up with that?!
I had Dusty, who came with a sueded horse, and the Bionic Woman whose head made a cool noise when you turned it. Probably a Barbie in the mix somewhere, although I wasn’t very interested in her.
My favorite was a much larger doll, whose brand I don’t know, but the individual doll’s name was Sasha. She came in a very trendy “leather” mini jumper with a white turtleneck sweater underneath. And you can’t forget the boots! Ah, to grow up in the 70s…you can’t beat it!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
